We are writing this apology from a place of deep reflection and remorse. It has come to our attention (through Fizz) that the Emory community has become aware of an unfortunate misunderstanding at our St. Patty’s Day Darty.
First of all, let’s be clear: we are not racist. In an indisputable show of innocence, our dear brother said: “It was the borg talking not me.” He even cited the three whole seasons he watched of Orange is the New Black, and the $0.50 tip he gave his Dominican Doordash driver. So clearly, it was never our intention to offend anyone
.
We would also like to point out the injustice with which we were treated during these difficult weeks. Don’t act like you haven’t heard other brothers say the same or worse. See, when our parents – who donate generously to the school – warned us about “wokeness” and “cancel culture,” we never thought it would affect us. Yet, here we are being forced to “take responsibility” and “learn from our actions.” Whatever happened to free speech?
Nevertheless, we’d like all to know that at Sig Chi we place a special emphasis on remaining primarily-white, but totally open-minded. From now on, we pledge to be more careful of where and when we express ourselves. We have learned that, at least at Emory, racial slurs are best reserved for the boys’ group chat.
I hope we can quickly move past this as a community. Sorry ig.
