New Alternative Break Option: Students Can Do Parent-Trap Switch Over Thanksgiving

Hate your family? You’re not alone!

If the thought of going home for Thanksgiving fills you with dread, check out Emory’s new alternative break program that will send you and another student to each other’s homes for the entirety of the break, à la The Parent Trap.

Emory University has an impressive array of alternative break options, from researching homelessness in Chattanooga to assisting healthcare workers in Jamaica. Never before has there been an alternative option for Thanksgiving break, but with an alarming amount of requests from students for literally anything to do besides go home and listen to their grandparents criticize their physical appearance for an hour straight, faculty coordinators knew something had to be done.

With only 24 hours to plan the program, the “Parent Trap Alternative Break” was formed. If accepted to the exclusive program, students will trade places, homes, and identities with another randomly selected student and try to fool the other’s family into thinking nothing is amiss.

To apply, all you have to do is fill out a quick form with your name, race, and the approximate limit on how many questions about your future plans you can withstand.

The form also asks for your hard no’s (such as which offensive political opinions you absolutely refuse to listen to) and your soft no’s (which offensive political opinions you can listen to for a brief minute).

With Emory students’ safety in mind, you are also granted a safe word in case the new family dinner ends up being even more unbearable than your own! If the pain gets too great, shout out “Meredith Blake is a Step-MILF!” and Emory coordinators will immediately appear and Parent Trap you once again.

Interested students are required to learn the entirety of Annie’s secret handshake before applying and should check out the Emory University website for more info.
