Op-ed: I kept my Tinder bio “thank u, next” and am proud of it

My life is divided into two stages: before and after I listened to ”thank u, next”. The most important days in my life were when I graduated high school, when my little brother was born and when I heard “thank u, next”.

I look for inspiration in my surroundings and in the strong and exemplary women in my life. I decided to pursue a career in journalism because of Rory Gilmore. I developed a crippling fear of monsters because of Mary Shelley. I plan on getting into a troublesome royal marriage because of Princess Diana and I decided to break up my very stable 2 year relationship because of Ariana Grande. You see, I wanted to be empowered and, honestly just feel anything again, and relating to “I’m so fucking grateful for my Ex” was my one-way ticket to eternal self-confidence.

I am now a strong and powerful woman who does not need a man, even if he hears me, appreciates my femininity and independence and loves me through my flaws. Against all advice, and swimming against the current, I kept my tinder bio “thank u, next.” The strength, power, and above all, soul of the song is integral to my single life and no MAN can tell me otherwise!
