As 2019 comes to a close, we here at the Spoke rounded up the best top ten lists to summarize the decade and put them in the best compilation format the internet has to offer: a numbered list.
- Top ten things you forgot happened this decade
Starting off at number ten, we have the classic ‘things you forgot’ list. Included on this list are some gems like #7: Khan Academy spammed you with requests for donations but you didn’t have the heart to thank them for saving your GPA by sending a single dollar; and, our personal favorite, #3: The last birthday party with CapriSuns instead of alcohol before you have children.
- Top ten college ranking sites that used to list Emory in the top 20
If you’re feeling nostalgic for the days of the early 2010s when our university was a well-respected educational institution that deserved the nickname “Harvard of the South,” this list harkens back to a time before our standards slipped to those of a #21 university.
- Top ten people who were #cancelled
From racist Tweets to sexual misconduct, this list covers it all. Because why not revisit all those nasty, hateful, derogatory messages we anonymously sent some guy named Steve?
- Top ten books you Sparknoted in high school
With this list, you can return the lavish parties of Jay Gatsby or the wild moors of Yorkshire, or at least to the summaries, analyses, character lists, and comprehension quizzes on Sparknotes that helped you pass tenth grade English.
- Top ten former Trump cabinet members
This list was made for everyone who couldn’t keep track of all the people who used to work in the White House.
- Top 10 STUPIDEST things you started doing ironically then couldn’t stop
Dab.
- Top ten cringiest fandoms you were a part of
Middle school was a wild time, and you were into some weird shit. But that’s okay. This list is here to validate your past (we’re looking at you, Juggalos).
- Top 10 FUNNIEST deadly internet challenges
What’s better than kids eating Tide Pods or jumping out of moving vehicles to dance to “In My Feelings?”
- Top ten Netflix shows you told your friend you’d watch but didn’t
Looking back, the 2010s went by disturbingly fast. So, in retrospect, you really didn’t even have time to watch “Ozark,” “GLOW,” or any other show you promised you’d eventually get through. And honestly, binge-watching “The Office” for the fifth time was probably a better use of your time anyway.
- Top ten times you thought the world would end but it only just got a whole lot shittier
From the 2012 Doomsday prediction to the 2016 presidential election, we had a lot of close calls. Maybe it would have been better if the world had ended when we thought it would. In any case, we’re here now, at the turn of the decade, looking bravely, hopefully into the future. So let’s forget the woes of the past ten years and party like it’s 1920 (sans the racism, misogyny, etc. etc. this time around).
