“Size isn’t Everything” 2036 Domes Absent from Homecoming after Las Vegas Sphere Opens

Did you feel something missing at homecoming? Yes, the fundamentals were there: parents blacked out at mags and your best friend hooked up with your step-dad, but there was one crucial part missing: The Domes. To the heartbreak of students everywhere, the iconic 2036 domes were missing.“I was really hoping to try and hotbox it this year,” says Micheal Griffin (27C).

Greg Fenves, Emory University president, is disappointed too: “See, after the Sphere in Las Vegas opened, it felt like my brand was stolen,” he sulked. It is not simply the fact that the Sphere is yet another dome, but that the Sphere upstaged Fenves. Fenves expressed that just because their dome is bigger, it doesn’t mean it was better: “Size isn’t everything, and I don’t even like U2.”

Fenves further argues that it “shouldn’t even be a contest” since Emory had not one but four domes; quality over quantity isn’t always the case. “We decided that we didn’t want the “Sphere” to overshadow the message of the 2036 campaign, even though it was ours first,” Fenves said with a defeated sigh.

Emory took the Domes for granted, leaving a hole in our hearts when they left. Hopefully, we haven’t truly said goodbye, but only a “see you later.”
